Programs and prices

The Elephant Sanctuary, Plettenberg Bay, offers the following educational programs:

One-hour trunk-in-hand elephant educational program
An experienced guide will introduce you to the elephants, and you will learn about their backgrounds, behaviour, and characters and more while being able to touch, feel, feed, interact and walk trunk-in-hand with the elephants. Suitable for all ages.
The program lasts approximately one hour.

Rates: R175-00 per child (4-14yrs) and R325-00 per adult.

Elephant-back ride
This includes the full Trunk-in-Hand program followed up by an approximately 10 minute ride - a privilege historically reserved for kings! It is a truly amazing experience to take a gentle ride on these magnificent animals. Long pants and closed shoes are recommended. Booking is Essential in High Season.
Please note children have to be a minimum of 8 years old in order to ride.

Rates: R395-00 per child (8-14yrs) and R760-00 per adult.

Elephant-back Ride Only
Enjoy an approximately 10 minute ride – a privilege historically reserved for kings!! It is truly amazing experience to ride these magnificent animals. Booking is Essential in High Season. Long pants and closed shoes are recommended.
Please note children have to be a minimum of 8 years old in order to ride.

Rates: R220-00 per child (8-14yrs) and R435-00 per adults.

Elephant Brush Downs
This is a very special program - you take part in the morning or afternoon grooming and brushing down of the elephants. This also includes the Trunk-in-Hand program. The duration is approximately 75 minutes.
Booking is Essential. Elephant Brush Downs at 07h45 or 15h30

Rates: R195-00 per child (4-14yrs) and R385-00 per adult.

Sundowner/Sunrise Elephant Experience
This program includes all the other elephant educational programs for the full Elephant Experience: The Trunk-in-Hand, the Elephant Back Riding & then finishing the program off helping to groom the elephants and getting them ready for bedding down for the night or starting up the day, with the Brush down program. Booking is Essential.
Sunrise Experience at 07:45am & Sundowner Experience at 15h30.

The duration for the Sundowner Elephant Experience is approximately 1½ hours. Booking is Essential. Children under the age of 8 can participate in this program except for the elephant back ride.

Rates: R195-00 per child younger than 8 years, R395-00 per child (8-14yrs) and
R795-00 per adult.

Exclusive Private Program
We offer a private program for guests who want to have their own exclusive program. This program starting times is flexible to suit the need of guests who either have a time restraint or who want to have their own private program. The rate for the exclusive program is for up to ten people. This program includes the one hour Trunk-in-Hand program and the Elephant-back ride.  For any guests over and above 10 people we charge the normal rate per person extra per person.  Booking is Essential.

Rates: R6000-00 for up to the first 10 people and normal rates per person thereafter.

The times for the one hour Trunk-in-Hand programs are as follows:

Morning - on the hour starting at 08h00, 09h00, 10h00, 11h00 and 12h00
Afternoon – on the half hour starting at 13h30, 14h30 with our last program of the day departing at 15h30 unless arranged differently with our reception staff.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to program departure to avoid any disappointment of losing your booking.

BEST OF THE CRAGS – DAY PACKAGE

Nestling in the foothills of the O’Teniqua Mountains, The Crags is situated just outside Plettenberg Bay, and has become a hub for tourists wanting to experience environmentally sensitive activities.  This educational day package offers the best of what The Crags has to offer.

Get off to an early start at 7.30am and walk with the Cheetahs of Tenikwa through indigenous forest and Cape Floral Fynbos.

Join a guided safari through the world's first multi-species free-roaming primate sanctuary at Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary.

Thereafter work up an appetite as you wander through the world's largest free-flight aviary at Birds of Eden.

Luncheon under the vines at The Crags very own Vineyard, Bramon Wine Estate.

End of the day with the Elephant experience, as you join them for an Elephant Brushdown at The Crags Elephant Sanctuary.
