Mopane

Female - born 1991
Mopane is the oldest of the elephants at the sanctuary. She is also the biggest and tallest at approximately 3m in height and weighs approximately 3500 kg. Mopane is tuskless and has a distinctive tear in her left ear.

Mopane “adopted” the two younger elephants and plays a very important protective but at the same time reprimanding role with the two juveniles at this stage of their youth.

Marula

Female – born 1992
Marula is the matriarch of the family structure at the sanctuary even though she is a year younger than Mopane. She keeps the discipline and structure in the family and will constantly spar and play with all the elephants in order to stay on top of the hierarchy.
Marula has small thin tusks, weights approximately 3300kg and stands approximately 3 meters tall.

Jabu

Female – born 1993

Jabu has the bigger tusks of the four adult females and weighs similar to Mopane at approximately 3300kg. Jabu loves swimming and covering herself in the mud and is always the first one into the water and the last one out!
Jabu loves children.

Thandi

Female – born 1994

Thandi is also a tuskless female. Although she is the the youngest of the adult females, she is bigger than Jabu and a similar size as Mopane.
Thandi loves company and will always interact with any of the elephants around her.

Tlamelo

Female – born 2001

Tlamelo is the youngest of the elephants at the sanctuary and also the most spoiled by all the other elephants. Tlamelo has small sharp tusks and has a very distinctive damaged right ear.
Tlamelo is still in a very playful and carefree stage of her life and loves all the attention she gets.

Thaba

Male – born 2000

Thaba is the only male elephant at the sanctuary. He has the biggest tusk out of all the elephants at the sanctuary.

Thaba loves all the attention he gets from the “girls” and is constantly sparring and playing with the females. Thaba still has a very playful attitude and will put a smile on everybody’s face with his “boys will be boys” habits
